Human rights activists in the Yemeni city of Taiz said that more than 450 children were killed or wounded by Houthi sniper fire during the past six years. Amiri’s sister, Ruwaida, was one of those children. He pulled her to safety after she was hit by a bullet in the head.
The civil war in Yemen began in 2014 when the Houthis expelled the internationally recognized government from the capital. A Saudi-led coalition, backed by Britain, is trying to restore the government to power. The Houthis, backed by Iran, deny claims that they target children.
