The violent and destructive partition of India in 1947 displaced some 15 million people and left at least a million dead.
Many families fled for their lives, never returning to the villages, towns, and cities they had come into contact with before.
But now, they can visit those very places – the homes they left behind, the schools they dropped out of and even the people they thought they’d never see again.
Project Dastaan allows them to do exactly that and walk down memory lane, albeit painfully, with their custom 360-degree VR videos.
The project’s founders hope that reconnecting people to their past will stimulate dialogue for peace.
