The arrest and imprisonment of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny sparked unprecedented street protests in Russia. With the Kremlin bent on cracking down, police have targeted opposition activists across the country, as far as Vladivostok, 4,000 miles east of the capital.
An online video clip shows Vladivostok protester Gennady Shulga shut his head over his dog’s food bowl while Russian police question him at his home. The BBC traveled to meet Shulga, who said he believed the video had been leaked “to show people what the authorities can do”.
