roommates, Singer He’s been in the game long enough to own several classic and iconic albums…and one of them has officially turned 20! On this day on August 7, 2001, Usher released his third studio album “8701” – which permanently put him in conversation with one of the greatest artists of all time.

Not only did the album have a number one group hit singles and Grammy wins, and also featured Usher’s legendary dance and singing videos. The album’s debut single, “U Remind Me” climbed to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and won Best R&B Vocal Performance at 44NS Annual Grammy Awards.

However, “U Remind Me” wasn’t the only song on “8701”, the second single “U Got It Bad” also reached number one, while the third single “U Don’t have to Call” reached No. Number three.

Once released, Usher’s “8701” easily debuted at number one on the Billboard R&B/Hip Hop chart and number four on the Billboard 200. The album featured a lineup of legendary producers/songwriters, such as Jermaine Dupree, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Babyface and The Neptunes, Bryan-Michael Cox, Mike City, and Soulshock & Karlin.

Usher also had a hand in writing the songs on the album, as well as a little towards the end of production, and co-wrote and produced “Intro-Lude 8701” and “Without U (Interlude)” with the help of Jam & Lewis.

We definitely still play this album today as we did when it was released. happy 20NS Anniversary!
