Tokyo Paralympics day two: GB gold rush, wheelchair rugby and more – live! | Sport

The 8:30pm Tokyo recap

A blur of activity, as ever.

  • A golden day for Great Britain: Jaco van Glass at the velodrome, Piers Gilliver with the swords, Lee Pearson on the horses, Maisie Summers-Newton and Tully Kearney swimming.
  • No golds for those cheeky Australians, though Darren Hicks got a silver at the track, David Nicholas a bronze, and there were two more bronze in the pool.
  • Ihar Boki kept doing what he does. The Bruce Dickinson of swimming, but substitute gold records for gold medals.
  • The wheelchair rugby is hotting up, with an Australia-France classic.
  • China’s campaign is fast becoming a juggernaut, with medals left, right, and centre.
  • Ireland won a first gold, and first medal, of the Games thanks to Ellen Keane.

Cool. Cool? Cool. That’s me. Paul Campbell has your back, your eye, your hand, for the next little while. It has, as ever, been an honour, a privilege, and a rare pleasure.
