Team USA will play France in the men’s basketball final as they chase a fourth consecutive gold medal.
The Americans recovered from a shaky start by beating Australia 97-78 in the semi-finals.
Australia led by 15 points in the second quarter before the three-times champions fired 34 points to turn the difference.
France later beat Slovenia 90-89 to reach their first Olympic final since Sydney 2000.
The gold medal match takes place on Saturday (03:30 GMT).
Team USA’s comeback was led by Kevin Durant and Devin Booker, with the latter beating Australia single-handedly in the third quarter.
“I have to give credit to Australia, they went out and hit us with a nice haymaker,” said Durant, who scored the US team’s highest with 23 points, with Booker adding 20 points.
“We were able to get some momentum through the half. The guys came out that strong, and we shot the balls too.
“I feel like everything is compatible for us in that second half, and that’s who we are.
“Think [teams] We want to frustrate ourselves early in the hope that we will panic. We didn’t. We came out in the third quarter with amazing energy and fighting.”
