The European Union president slams AstraZeneca for delaying delivery
Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission, accused AstraZeneca of not providing coronavirus vaccines, and said that the European Union is ready to use “any tool” to ensure it gets its “fair share.”

Unfortunately, AstraZeneca was not under production and was not delivered, which painfully, of course, slowed down the vaccination campaign. Open roads go in both directions, which is why we need to ensure that there is reciprocity and proportionality. And I want to be clear about reciprocity. If the situation does not change, we will have to think about how to make exports to vaccine producing countries dependent on their level of openness. So we are exporting a lot to countries that themselves produce vaccines. We believe that this is an invitation to open up, until we also see the return of exports from those countries to the European Union. In other words, we want to deliver reliable vaccines. We want to increase contracts. We want to see reciprocity and proportionality in exports, and we are ready to use whatever tool we need to achieve this.
