Attention, high school and college-aged Latinx filmmakers: the inaugural You are preparing! Youth Film Festival He wants to see your work. A press release announced that the online festival, which will celebrate and amplify young Latino voices in films from September 18 to October 16, is now accepting submissions of short films.
Films (30 minutes or less) that contain a Latino in a major creative position either on or off screen are eligible. Projects can be fiction or non-fiction works in English or Spanish. “There is only one theme: the past meets the present and moves forward,” According to the festival’s FilmFreeway page. “Applicants must categorize their films under one of the following categories: technology, arts, culture, environment, education and social empowerment.”
Featured filmmakers will have the opportunity to win the Grand Prize ($5,000), Student Prize ($2,000), or the opportunity to attend a master class.
¡To Quintas! The Youth Film Festival will also include workshops, panel discussions, networking events and viewing parties.
“We are excited to be back and look forward to welcoming participants to our inaugural edition rescheduled for 2021,” said Festival Director Luis Alejandro Molina. “The theme of this festival speaks about what has brought us to this moment in time and invites us to imagine a future in which we are all seen, heard and, most importantly, counted.” He continued, “Far from promoting diversity and inclusion, the festival and its virtual panels series ‘Conversations Between X’ are designed to invite discussion and reflection among the larger Latino content creation community about issues that affect us today. Whether you’re an amateur filmmaker in college or a high school student,” he continued. Aspiring to make films one day, we want to hear your story.”
¡To Quintas! The regular application deadline for Cine Youth Fest is August 16, and the late deadline is August 30. Notifications will be sent by 6 September. Head over to FilmFreeway to submit or to find out more.
