Sophia Loren reaped great reviews for her performance in “The Life Ahead,” and now the Oscar winner is adding more accolades to her collection. This year she was chosen as a recipient of the LA Award, Italia Legend from the Los Angeles, Italy Festival of Film, Fashion and Arts. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news.
“Today, more than ever, Sofia is securing recognition for the global film industry, and we hope the Academy honors her amazing performance,” said Armand Asante, who chairs this year’s festival. The festival is scheduled to run from April 18-24, and it is now in its sixteenth edition, and it has gone digital this year due to the Coronavirus.
Lauren won an Academy Award in 1962 for her pioneering performance in “Two Women” (“La ciociara”), and she won an Honorary Oscar in 1991. She has won awards for her role in The Life Ahead (La vita davanti a sé), The story of a Holocaust survivor who takes the 12-year-old who stole it.Drama, directed by Eduardo Ponte, Lauren’s son, was nominated for Best Motion Film – Foreign Language in the upcoming Golden Globe.Lauren recently appeared in a short documentary about “What Will Sophia Loren do? ”About an Italian-American grandmother and movie fanatic who has always been inspired by Lauren, her on-screen idol.
