The number of COVID-19 cases in India has risen sharply in the past few weeks.
The country reports more than 150,000 cases daily. In January and February the number of daily cases dropped below 20,000.
So how did India transition from relative calm to its new crisis?
Businesses, markets and malls have reopened, and transportation is running at full capacity. Large weddings, festivals and election rallies are also held.
The result: a case described by a doctor as a “covid tsunami”.
