Sarah Silverman Not prejudicial words – Texas’ anti-abortion law is a declaration of war, but only some women are targets.
We got Sarah on Saturday night at WeHo on her way out of Craig, and she was candid… The law that effectively bans most abortions is a war on the poor. She says, wealthy women have the means to leave the country and have an abortion elsewhere.
Sarah is not a fan of the boycott…she says it only hurts people in the state who are themselves victims. She says the real target should be the politicians who enacted the law.
As you probably know by now, Texas law largely prohibits abortion after the first six weeks of pregnancy. There are no exceptions for rape or incest. The law places a reward on the head of anyone who helps a woman to have an abortion after 6 weeks. Anyone in the state can sue people who help with $10,000 plus attorney fees.
The US Supreme Court refused to even hear the case before the law went into effect on September 1. In fact, Roe v. Wade is dead in Texas, at least for now, and Scotos has suggested that Roe may be history in the next chapter when she issues a ruling on a Mississippi law that squarely challenges the constitutional right to abortion.
