Two explosions left outside Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, on Thursday A scene of carnage and destructionAt least 13 US service members and an unknown number of Afghan civilians were killed.
US officials said the attacks were believed to have been carried out by suicide bombers and gunmen from the Islamic State group, adding that they were still operating for “total loss”. The attacks increased chaos, panic and fear at the airport. Crowds of Afghan families have been struggling to flee the country since the Taliban took control of the country. Pictures showed emergency workers and civilians rushing to help those injured in the explosions and shootings.
