The Miami HEAT newspaper said the organization “strongly condemns” Leonard’s anti-Semitic comment and has declared that he will not be with the team while the NBA investigates the situation.
7:03 pm PDT – “The Miami Heat strongly condemns the use of any form of hate speech. The words used by Myers Leonard were wrong and we will not tolerate hateful language from anyone associated with our franchise,” HEAT told TMZ Sports.
“Hearing this from a Miami HEAT player is disappointing and especially painful to all of those who work here, plus the greater South Florida communities, the Miami Heat and the National Basketball Association.
The team continued … “Myers Leonard will be away from the team indefinitely. The Miami HEAT will team up with the NBA as it conducts its investigation.”
4:57 PM PDT – Myers Leonard now apologizes for the incident … claiming he did not know what the word meant at the time, but says his “ignorance of its history” is no excuse.
“I am now more aware of its meaning, and I am committed to properly searching for people who can help educate me about this type of hate and how we can fight it,” Leonard said on Instagram.
“I admit my mistake and bear it and there is no escape from something like this that is very painful for someone else.”
Leonard goes on to apologize to the owner of the Miami Heat Mickey Arison (Who’s a Jew), his teammates, coaches, fans, and the Jewish community.
“I promise to do better and know that my future actions will be stronger than my use of this word.”
4:19 PM PDT – The world-famous FaZe Clan disassociates itself from Leonard … issues a statement condemning his actions.
“We were very disappointed to hear the Myers stream today,” the organization said.
“FaZe does not tolerate hate speech or discriminatory language of any kind.”
It should be noted that Leonard was not a member of FaZe, but an investor. Either way, it is the institution. He washes his hands from the man.
1:45 PM PDT – The National Basketball Association released a statement on the video … saying the league is in the process of gathering more information about the incident.
“The NBA categorically condemns all forms of hate speech.”
1:32 PM PDT – Miami Heat retreated the footage, a team spokesperson told a New York Times reporter Mark Stein.
