Thirteen-year-old Joshi has spent his entire life at a British safari park, but now he’s getting a fresh start – and his family – in the jungle of Congo-Brazzaville. He was chosen to make the trip due to his calm and gentle nature.
Learning to live in the wild is not easy, so he was trained by two wild-born gorillas, who were orphaned when their mothers were killed by bushmeat.
It is hoped that he will also be able to steal a few female gorillas from another group, says Amos Korag of the Aspinal Foundation: “Because gorillas with moderate behavior also attract females.”
