Janet Zacharias Zapata appears to be having a fit in the ring and has been taken to the hospital after the fight.

A teenage boxer has died, five days after being eliminated in a professional fight.

Mexican welterweight Janet Zacharias Zapata, 18, lost in the fourth round to Marie-Pierre Holly at the GVM Gala International in Montreal on Saturday.

She appeared to have an epileptic fit after she was stunned by a large shin in the left and right hook and was taken to hospital.

The fight’s promoter, Yvonne Michel, announced the news on Thursday.

“It is with great sadness and agony that we have learned from her family’s representative that Janet Zacharias Zapata passed away this afternoon at 3:45 pm,” his statement read.

“The entire team at Groupe Yvon Michel is deeply saddened by this painful announcement,” the promoters said in their statement, and offered their condolences to the fighter’s family.

Holly responded on Instagram saying how upset she was with the outcome.

“Boxing involves a lot of risks and dangers,” she said. “This is our job, our passion. Never, forever, the intent to seriously harm an opponent will never be a part of my plans.”

WBC also paid tribute to Zapata, saying: “WBC President Mauricio Suleiman and the entire WBC boxing family, as well as all boxers, mourned this irreparable loss.

“We send our deepest condolences to Janet’s family and friends. May she rest in peace.”
