The Twenty20 tournament was suspended on May 4 after several positive tests for coronavirus among players.
It was kept away from India because it is the monsoon season in the country at that time.
The Cricket Board of Control of India (BCCI) said it was a unanimous decision to resume the IPL.
There are 31 matches left to play, and the tournament re-arrangement should have dealt with a busy international cricket schedule.
England finished a series of five Tests against India on September 14 and is scheduled to travel to Bangladesh and Pakistan before the T20 World Cup kicks off in India in October.
