Dozens of clothed dogs joined their owners in a carnival parade inside a private club in the Recreo dos Bandeirantes neighborhood. The parade usually takes place along the Avenida Atlantica bordering Copacabana Beach, but this year the mayor of Rio has banned any public celebration.
“Cariocas (as the people of Rio are called) carry the joy of the carnival in their veins.” Marco Antonio Marinho, 66, who has been organizing the dog parade for 18 years, said: We have invited a limited audience for a commemorative event away that prevents the 2021 Carnival from ending as if nothing had happened.
