Hretti, 17, lives in Rarotonga, the largest of the Cook Islands in the South Pacific. She says the ocean is the “lifeblood” of her community, and when it’s “healthy,” people are. But it is concerned that rising sea levels and pollution threaten the ocean’s health.
“Life underwater” is Goal 14 of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, a set of goals announced in 2015 to change life around the world by 2030. The United Nations wants to conserve and use the oceans sustainably, and drastically reduce pollution Marine, by 2025.
This video is part of Project 17, the BBC World Service series produced in partnership with The Open University, in which 17-year-olds look at progress in achieving the United Nations’ 17 goals.
