How grief combines an Israeli and Palestinian mother

A friendship was united between two nations, one Palestinian and the other Israeli, whose two sons died as a result of the conflict, after sharing their grief and their common desire for peace.

Laila says her son Qusay died after falling ill when Israeli soldiers threw tear gas at her village in Bethlehem.

Robbie’s son David was studying at university and was part of the peace movement when he was called into the reserve. She says he died after being shot by a Palestinian sniper.

The two women found their way to the Fathers Circle, a joint Israeli-Palestinian organization made up of people who lost family members in the conflict.

In an in-depth interview on his site BBC Radio 5 live showColin Murray spoke to Lily and Robbie about their experience, their friendship, and their desire for peace.
