The Australian federal government has granted Mark Killian and his wife Annelie Gerike an exemption from border closures for Covid-19, allowing them to travel to the country to visit Mark’s deceased father.
However, Queensland refused to exempt them from quarantine, so the couple are currently spending 14 days in hotel isolation.
A Queensland Health spokesperson defended its policies, saying they will “always put the safety of the Queensland community first, and our quarantine policy has been successful in keeping our community safe”.
But with his father only clinging to life in the hospital, Mark and Anneli make a desperate plea to the state leader and chief health officer for sympathy before time runs out.
