Gurkha veterans fight for Covid care in Nepal

0

Covid has reached the most remote areas of Nepal – including the mountain village of Barbak, which is home to many British Army veterans and their families.

For over 200 years, Gurkha soldiers have been recruited directly from Nepal to fight in the British Army.

The UK-based Gurkha Welfare Trust, which supports war veterans and their families, estimates that there are more than 20,000 war veterans and widows living in Nepal. She says she knows 58 deaths from Covid.

The BBC’s Ragini Vidyanathan travels to Barbak to meet war veterans and families who say they have been hit hard by the pandemic.
