AMSTERDAM, September 13 – A Dutch court ruled on Monday that Uber drivers are employees, not independent contractors, and are entitled to greater worker rights.

The Amsterdam district court sided with the Dutch Trade Union Confederation, which said Uber drivers are in fact employees of a taxi company and should be given the same wages and benefits as other workers in the sector.

In March, Uber said it would improve workers’ rights, including minimum wages, for all of its more than 70,000 British drivers after losing a High Court case in February.
