In 1994, on NBC‘s days of our livess, fan-favorite character Marlena Evans, healer/mother/privileged citizen, becomes possessed by the devil and wreaks havoc on the residents of Salem. Now, nearly 30 years later, the show is revisiting the memorable story this fall.
According to NBC, the story began when villain Stefano Dimera began hypnotizing Marlina, the “Queen of the Night.” The hypnosis intended to make her fall in love with him made her vulnerable to demonic possession and eventually led to Marlina’s demon possession. Later that year (Christmas Eve) in one of the most memorable moments in American pop culture history, Marlena rose (see photo above). The story ran until 1995 and concluded that summer when John Black, her current husband who was believed to be a priest at the time, had to perform an emergency exorcism. In the revisited story, NBC promises that “fans can look forward to twists and turns you’d never suspect as well as familiar faces coming back to save the day (or not)….this time, the devil knows no bounds and no one in Salem is safe.” !”
