Testing of her close contact identified eight additional cases across three linked families. Of these, five worked in hospice and health care and two worked in Bulkham Hills when they were infectious. One had worked at the Royal North Shore, Royal Ryde and Fairfield Hospital while he was infectious and the others did not work during the infection.
Follow-up investigations at health care facilities identified two other cases at Royal North Shore Hospital, including one today, who was identified as a close contact with the student nurse. This case did not work and is contagious and was fully vaccinated.
So, there are two cases that I got infected through healthcare exposure, but both did not work during infection. This is the rationale. If we can detect cases, we can remove them from the premises and make sure we don’t see continued transmission. We are clearly very vigilant and I appreciate the efforts of the staff as well as the patients.
