Ms. Oberlander was one of the first women to study at the Harvard Graduate School of Design, noted Charles Birnbaum, president and CEO of The Cultural Landscape. “Her broad career includes public housing projects beginning in the 1950s, dozens of children’s play areas in the 1960s, government campuses and cultural institutions, her pioneering efforts with green roofs, and her continued use of landscape architecture to address environmental, environmental and environmental issues,” Birnbaum said in a letter. In 2019, the Washington-based foundation launched its $100,000 biennial award after Ms. Oberlander is due to name its first recipient this year to celebrate its centenary.
