Tennis fans in the UK will be able to watch tonight’s live coverage US Open Tennis Championships final day Channel 4 After the broadcaster got a last minute deal to share the broadcast with him Amazon Prime Video.

British viewers will be able to cheer 18-year-old Emma Radocano on her first Grand Slam appearance against fellow Canadian Leila Fernandez, a rapidly rising star.

As a result of the deal – which is expected to be in the seven-figure range – with Amazon Prime Video, Channel 4 will take the streaming giant’s live broadcasts and stream it for free on Channel 4.

Prime Video has said it will reinvest all fees from the Channel 4 agreement into British women’s tennis.

“Emma’s rapid rise to secure a spot in the US Open final is very exciting,” said Ian Katz, Channel 4’s chief content officer. “We are delighted that we have worked with Prime Video and pulled all the stations to air it and I am sure viewers will be delighted with the prospect of watching Emma in the Grand Slam final.”

Raducano is the first British woman to reach a Grand Slam singles final since Virginia Wade at Wimbledon in 1977.

“We didn’t know we had reached the deal until late Friday night, and a lot of people went to great lengths to make it happen,” Katz added of the deal.

Earlier this year, Channel 4 secured a similar coup when it showed live television coverage of England’s Test series against India. It was the first time that demo cricket had been shown for free in the UK since Channel 4 showed England’s Ashes winning in 2005.
