The NBA’s opening tournament served its intended purpose: it became the subject of league-wide talk in the final month of the season and then spawned some attractive matches.
But the real qualifiers start on Saturday. Can the Los Angeles Lakers repeat the title of champion? The Utah Jazz team finished the best league record in the league. Does this mean that they are ready to advance towards their first title? What are you made of mosquito nets? Could former champions Kevin Durant and Keri Irving make a championship for Brooklyn?
We asked NBA experts from across the USA Today Network about their safe and bold choices for the Eastern and Western Conference Finals as well as the NBA Finals. Some of their answers may surprise you.

In what would be a draw in ratings due to the tag market and star power, LeBron James won the NBA title over Kevin Durant for the first time since the Miami Heat beat the Oklahoma City Thunder nine years ago. Young Durant learned LeBron’s greatness early on from OKC.
Bold choice: Nuggets on heat
No longer content with just being a great story in the NBA bubble, the Nuggets won the NBA title over a team that would return to the World Cup Finals by relying on the best passing player in the league (Nikola Jukic).
