There was a protest in Italy after dozens of women who had miscarried or miscarried 20 weeks into their pregnancy discovered that, without their knowledge, the fetus was buried in a grave with the woman’s name written on it.
The breach of privacy emerged after one of the units, Marta Lowe, shared a photo of the tomb that she discovered. It brought back into focus the struggle many Italian women still faced to gain access to an abortion in Italy, and which was legalized there in 1978.
