A Russian ballerina from the world-famous Mariinsky Theater in full costume performs scenes from Swan Lake to Tchaikovsky … not on stage, but in the frozen Gulf of Finland.
This is Elmira Bajrautenova’s way of opposing the construction of a port in the Gulf of Patarinia, a popular beach about 100 kilometers west of Saint Petersburg, Russia’s second largest city.
Bajrautenova danced at -15 ° C and posted her videos on the Internet. As she explains to Russian BBC correspondent Ekaterina Vinedictova, she hopes her performance will save the real pelicans that nest in the Gulf.
Video produced by Katerina Khinkulova.
