10 Healthiest Ice Creams, Sundaes, and Frozen Sundaes

0

Summer is in full swing, and with temperatures soaring, who doesn’t want a sweet, cold treat to beat the heat? Ice cream, of course, is the classic, safe solution. It’s undoubtedly fun: It’s high in calories and few nutrients—particularly loaded with sugar and saturated fat. In moderation, at that. We are meant to enjoy food, we are not here to demonize or drive away the devil. Healthy eating is a lifestyle that you maintain for a lifetime, not a strict diet that you struggle with for some time. However, if you’re looking for a healthy ice cream and sundae that doesn’t have as much of an impact on your health as a bowl of Ben & Jerry’s, we have some satiating options.

First, a quick primer. Today, there are many marketing ploys promoting ice cream as “healthy”, “low-calorie” or “light” when in reality it is a far cry from that. To evaluate the best ones, start by looking at the ingredients list and the Nutrition Facts label. Don’t base your decision on the number of calories alone. Look at the sugar content, added artificial ingredients, and total fat content as well.

Use this as a guideline: Healthy ice cream and ice cream should have less than 200 calories per serving, 12 grams of sugar (or less), and 10 grams of total fat (or less).

Now that you know what to look for, take a look at our list of the best healthy ice creams and sundaes to enjoy this summer.
